Welcome to Charlene Miers Foundation for Cancer Research

Charlene Miers Foundation for Cancer Research (Foundation) is an Oklahoma not-for-profit corporation.

We advocate federal and state legislation to further cancer research, and action to prevent, diagnose, treat and find a cure of cancer. We advocate finding, as soon as possible, how to stop cancer deaths. There are 600,920 cancer deaths estimated to occur in the United States in 2017, which is 1,600 per day, and one each minute. An estimated 1,688,780 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2017. The annual direct cost of cancer to the nation is estimated to be $87.8 billion. There are immeasurable human and emotional challenges of cancer for millions of Americans, their families, friends and employers.

Charlene Miers Foundation for Cancer Research advocates Congress increasing appropriations that fund cancer research through The National Cancer Institute, and creation of a National Cancer Fund to provide more certain long-term financial support of cancer research.

Our organization advocates other federal and state legislation, and public and private sector efforts to increase public awareness and support of the urgent need for and accelerated cancer research. We advocate and seek government, institutional, business and individual action to more rapidly and effectively prevent, diagnose, treat and find a cure of cancer.

Our directors and officers work as advocates and supporters of finding a cure of cancer for and together with other organizations and persons, including The National Cancer Institute, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, One Voice Against Cancer, Stand Up To Cancer, The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center, Duke University Medical Center, the Stephenson Cancer Center at the University of Oklahoma, and their representatives, advocates and volunteers.

Charlene Miers Foundation for Cancer Research is a member of One Voice Against Cancer (OVAC). Founded in 2000, OVAC is based in Washington as a coalition of more than thirty voluntary health and advocacy organizations focused primarily on the annual Congressional appropriations process for funding cancer research and prevention programs. OVAC membership includes the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, Livestrong, Susan G. Komen for the Cure Advocacy Alliance, and the American Association for Cancer Research. OVAC acts to provide a united front of participating member organizations to attain the funding levels necessary to win the War on Cancer.

Charlene Miers Foundation for Cancer Research is organized to be a tax exempt not-for- profit organization operated exclusively for promotion of social welfare under section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code.
